Summer is coming on, and so is swimsuit season in some parts of the world. Well, here, anyway! Uh, oh! The swimsuit! Does it still fit? Time to get summer fit, not summer fat. Let’s explore the benefits of cinnamon and how it assists in weight loss.
Being overweight is a common problem in the United States. An extra five pounds a year adds up after awhile. The problem is, this extra weight can lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, joint problems, sleep apnea, and cancer. If the weight is already there, don’t despair. Cinnamon can help.
Cinnamon is made from the bark of the Cinnamomum tree. That’s a mouthful, if you ask me. Back in ancient times it was used as a gift for the kings.
Benefits of Cinnamon
- Eases muscle spasms
- Treats vomiting
- Cures diarrhea
- Combats the common cold
- Attacks infection
- Boosts appetite
- Regulates blood sugar
- Helps erectile dysfunction
- Fights cancer
- Reduces heart disease
- Battles stomach flu
- Assists in weight loss
- Decreases cholesterol
- Elevates mood
There are two types of cinnamon, Cassia and Ceylon. Most grocery stores carry Cassia, which contains more coumarin. Excessive coumarin can cause liver toxicity and act as a blood thinner. Avoid more than 2 teaspoons of the Cassia variety, but up to 6 grams a day for a total of six weeks for Ceylon. Take turmeric for a week, then start the cinnamon again.
My Final Thoughts…
I just love cinnamon. I love the taste and the smell. I use both cinnamon sticks and ground cinnamon. It is my favorite go-to tea when I have a cough, or a sore throat.
I had no idea of the benefits of cinnamon! I just thought it tasted good in baked goods. Well, now that I know how good it is for health in a variety of ways, pile it on! Remember, get summer fit, not summer fat!
What have you used cinnamon for? Let me know in the comments!
