The Long Lost Echinacea Benefits-

It was time for a school break.  And time to catch a plane to spend the day flying home.  Though tired, I always felt fine when I left, but would always get a cold, complete with a cough by the time I arrived!  I needed some echinacea benefits to boost my immune system! An ounce of prevention….

I grew up in California, but went to college in Maryland and Tennessee.  Flying home would take all day, usually with several plane changes.  Of course germs abounded in the airport terminals and planes!  (Nothing against the airline industry, I’m just saying there are plenty of germs everywhere!) Though we were never sure if it was a quick, drastic weather change or germs that caused a cough.  And so I would spend my vacation, coughing.  Not to mention, attempts to soothe my poor throat and trouble getting to sleep when I needed it the most.  Let’s discover how echinacea benefits could have changed the scene.

This amazing herb comes from the sunflower family.  Echinacea is grown in the U.S., though I’ve never seen in growing.  I was so excited the other day to see seeds of it at Walmart.  I will be attempting to grow some.  It is an old remedy, used by the Indians for pain relief.  It was considered modern medicine until 1950, when antibiotics came about!

  • Battles cancer
  • Enhances immune system
  • Promotes elimination
  • Fights inflammation
  • Balances mental state
  • Treats upper respiratory disease
  • Resists infection

Some Cautions…

Echinacea taken in high doses may cause nausea and dizziness. Like any traditional medication you would take, please use in moderation.  If you allergies to ragweed, marigolds, chrysanthemums, or daisies, you may get a skin rash from the use of this herb.

My Final Thoughts

I am so amazed at how giving herbs are, as opposed to traditional medicine.  And yet, how often have we thrown them out with the bath water!  Sometimes, when traveling or going where crowds are, we need an extra boost to our immune systems.  I would have enjoyed my school vacation more with better rest if I had practiced an ounce of prevention….
