Got Basil? Get Healing!

Basil is one of the most common herbs.  It is frequently found in Italian cooking.  However, if you don’t have a green thumb, you may have thought it was found in a seasoning bottle or jar.  Fresh basil, as pictured above, is its original form.

The first question to address is where to buy a  plant.  The easiest place to get one is the grocery store.  They can be found in the produce section.  Otherwise, nurseries and home improvement stores carry them. 

It can be used to improve health and maintain it.  Usually its fresh form is used, as dried basil oils are considered weak.  Let’s explore its healing therapy. 

It is a strong warrior in fighting the cold, flu, and those in the herpes family.  Its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties make it useful in wounds.  In addition, it reduces fever, including those caused from malaria.

More specifically, it contains potassium, regulating the heart rate and blood pressure.  The vitamin K it harbors aids in blood clotting.  This healing herb alleviates respiratory disorders and evicts kidney stones. 

On a lighter note, this alternative healing therapy combats aging.  It hones the memory, so maybe basil tea is in order for studying?  Basil is also known to diminish stress, which most of us experience at one point or another.
